So, what we learned today is that the NFL did not care that Ray Rice hit his now wife, but that the world has found out the extent of his heinous actions in that elevator in February.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday suspended running back Ray Rice indefinitely after a new video surfaced that shows the player punching his future wife in an elevator in February, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said on Twitter. The incident had originally led Goodell to suspend Rice for the first two games of the regular season.

The video shows Rice knocking out his then fiancé with one blow, standing over her body without remorse until the elevator doors open then dragging her out where hotel employees approached the couple.

It took months for Goodell to suspend and fine Rice. “I didn’t get it right. Simply put, we have to do better. And we will,” he added.

Please not that there isn’t a penalty for domestic violence in the NFL instead players are cited and punished for “conduct detrimental to the NFL” essentially ‘making us look bad’.
