Despite being in the media over the past few months regarding their rumored separation, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith remain one of the most beloved couples in Hollywood. The two moguls were first introduced back in 1990 on the set of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, where Pinkett was auditioning for the role of Smith’s girlfriend. Although the role would eventually go to Nia Long, Jada and Will remained friends and kept in contact after casting. The Fresh Prince and the multi- talented actress began dating in 1995; two years later they were married during a private ceremony near Jada’s hometown in Baltimore, Maryland. The Smiths’ have three children, two together, Jaden and Willow, and one from Will’s first marriage, Trey.
Will and Jada have been the epitome of black love for quite some time now, with great reason. The star studded duo have been able to balance their ambitious careers while still serving as role model parents to their up and coming future star children.
As the couple approaches 15 years of marriage, they have done so in a very unique way. Both Will and
Jada credit much of their longevity to an abundant amount of communication, strong family values, and great sex. The Hollywood stars are even known to engage in an open relationship, where both parties are free to sleep with cast mates and other individuals as long as there is mutual consent. Big Willie commented in 2005 on their decision to exercise an open relationship:
“Our perspective is, you don’t avoid what’s natural. You’re going to be attracted to people. In our marriage vows, we didn’t say ‘forsaking all others.’ The vow that we made was that you will never hear that I did something after the fact. If it came down to it, then one spouse can say to the other, ‘Look, I need to have sex with somebody. I’m not going to if you don’t approve of it – but please approve of it.”

Aside from all the irrelevant propaganda that the media portrays, the award-winning actors have used their stardom to make a positive impact in their communities. Together, the Smiths’ started the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation in B-More, Maryland. The charity is built to focus on supporting young children and the families coming from inner cities. In 2007 the organization partnered with the Lupus Foundation of America and Maybeline to raise funds for educational and public programs to increase awareness. The Smiths’ have also made many charitable donations towards President Obama’s political campaigns, the Hollywood Education and Literacy Program, the New Village Leadership Academy, and more. Will and Jada have illustrated black excellence to its finest and continue to supersede any obstacles in their path towards greatness.
