R.I.P. Adam Yauch: MCA Of The Beastie Boys Dead At 47
Hip Hop has lost another one of its pioneers today. Adam Yauch, better known to most as MCA of The Beastie Boys, passed away today at age 47. In 2009, Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. He has since been fighting the disease with surgery and radiation therapy; unfortunately, today the battle ends.
MCA co-founded the Beastie Boys alongside Mike D and Ad Rock in 1979. The group won multiple Grammys and featured in numerous films throughout the years. By 2010 the Beastie Boys had sold 40 million records globally and were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame earlier last week.
Also known as Nathanial Hörnblowér, the rapper/musician/songwriter/film distributor/director was survived by his wife Dechen Wangdu and daughter Tenzil Losel Yauch.
