Sorry…Well Not Really

Happy Women’s Empowerment Day! Ladies, I know we don’t need a day to be validated, but the world is watching so why not celebrate in grand fashion? There are so many women I could highlight but I wanted to do something different. I want to highlight the hardworking women of the Los Angeles Sparks.

For those of you that don’t know who they are, they are the UNDEFEATED WNBA team! Now we know that the WNBA stars are treated like second-class citizens in comparison to their male counterparts and that needs to change. They work just as hard and deal with more hate. They are constantly bombarded with hateful messages on social media just based on their gender. Yes, people still have this primitive mentality that we should still be barefoot and pregnant— it’s absolutely archaic!

Well, you can’t mention Women’s Empowerment and not mention Queen B. Let’s face it, she’s been getting us in formation since “Bills, Bills, Bills”! Well, the Lady Sparks used Beyoncé’s hit song “Sorry” and made a video remake for their adversaries and posted it to their Instagram. During the video, you will see a slew of hateful tweets about the WNBA and its players. Unfortunately, the original video posted to the Sparks’ Twitter page was removed as of Friday afternoon. Below is a portion of the video that was re-posted by a fan.

I see you, Queens!

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness” – Oprah
