Tesla has formally scrapped the vary extender accent it was making for Cybertrucks. In emails seen by Electrek, Tesla confirmed to Cybertruck homeowners that it’s “not planning to promote” the $16,000 battery pack, and that it will be issuing full refunds for the $2,000 deposit put down by clients.
The vary extender would have taken up round half of the Cybertruck’s rear mattress house, and Tesla initially promised that it will give the dual-motor Cybertruck an estimated whole vary of 470 miles. That estimate was downgraded to 445 miles in 2024, alongside the unique launch date of “early 2025” being bumped again to “mid-2025.”
The battery pack was meant to deal with disappointment over manufacturing variations of the electrical pickup. When the tri-motor Cybertruck was introduced in 2019, Tesla stated it will value about $70,000 and sport a variety of greater than 500 miles. The ultimate model’s $99,990 worth and 301-mile vary fell wanting that, as did the $79,990 dual-motor AWD mannequin, with a 325-mile vary. Tesla says its entry-level $69,990 Lengthy Vary Cybertruck can drive as much as 362 miles on a cost.
