‘The Exorcist: Believer’ | Anatomy of a Scene
David Gordon Inexperienced narrates a sequence from his movie, that includes Leslie Odom Jr. and Lidya Jewett.
“Hello, I’m David Gordon Inexperienced, the director and co-writer of ‘The Exorcist: Believer.’” [FAUCET KNOB SQUEAK] “So this sequence takes place shortly after the disappearance of Angela Fielding, the daughter of Victor Fielding, performed by Leslie Odom Jr. And Angela has been lacking for 3 days and simply returned and begins to behave a bit of bit surprisingly.” “What you doing up, ladybug? Gotta use the lavatory.” “So with this sequence, I’m beginning to set up the unnerving high quality of a father that may’t fairly clarify the habits of his daughter. One of many classes I discovered on the ‘Halloween’ films is the impact of a steady timeline. And so though the sequence is comprised of quite a few pictures, the impact is one lengthy shot. And that gradual burn, that point the place there’s no gimmicks that you could course of as a viewer, it provides a wierd expectation of when one thing is gonna occur, gradual strikes, no expression from Angela. It’s virtually the neutrality of her face that makes it so uncommon as a result of she is so filled with charms, and smiles, and loving life. Right here we’re beginning to see issues in a bit of little bit of a subtler grade of expression.” [FAUCET KNOB SQUEAK] “What’d you say?” “Environment is — sound design is refined music that’s woven into the sound design. You’re a bit of bit on guard, you’re a bit of bit on edge as you’re letting that continuity unfold. After which that method, when she’s transcended this geography in a method that we all know as a result of we’ve established characters coming and going and strolling out and in, it’s all of the extra unnatural and off placing.”
